Twenty-one-year-old Tracy Samantha Allicock of Lot 75 Breda Street, Werk-en-Rust was yesterday remanded to prison when she appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court for allegedly being found with a quantity of cocaine in her suitcase at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri.
The mother of one pleaded not guilty to the charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
She denied that on October 13 at the CJIA she had over 5.2 kilogrammes of cocaine in her possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Her lawyer Peter Hugh, who appeared in association with Euclin Gomes, applied for reasonable bail for her on the grounds that his client has no previous convictions or any other pending matters in the court.
He then requested that the police return a quantity of cash and a cell phone among other items that they had taken from his client shortly after she was arrested for the offence.
However, Prosecutor Kevin London stated that on the day in question at about 1 pm, Allicock was an outgoing passenger at the CJIA on a flight en route to St. Maarten when police acting on information received stopped and conducted a search on her person and luggage.
He stated that the police discovered the cocaine neatly concealed in her suitcase. The prosecutor noted that further investigations were conducted and Allicock was later arrested and charged.
The magistrate then ordered that the case be transferred to the Providence Magistrate’s Court for October 23.
