BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – A knee injury will sideline Fidel Edwards for the WICB President’s Cup, starting later this month in Guyana. Chairman of selectors Courtney Browne and head coach Vasbert Drakes confirmed that the West Indies fast bowler had reported problems with his left knee after returning home last weekend from India, where he took part in the Champions League Twenty20 for Deccan Chargers. “Fidel came back from India and told the selectors he was concerned about his knee,” Drakes said on the Barbados Cricket Associa-tion’s website. “We sent him to [the doctor] for an assessment, and he was advised that he needs to have treatment on the knee, and be rehabilitated before he can take part in strenuous competition.” Uncapped all–rounder Khalid Springer has replaced Edwards in the 14-member squad for the regional competition. Springer is a right-arm fast-medium bowler and hard-hitting, lower-order batsman, and has played three Twenty20 matches in the Stanford Twenty20 Cup for the island.
Squad: Ryan Hinds (captain), Sulieman Benn, Tino Best, Rashidi Boucher, Jonathan Carter, Nikolai Charles, Kirk Edwards, Alcindo Holder, Carlo Morris, Martin Nurse, Kemar Roach, Dwayne Smith, Khalid Springer, Kevin Stoute
