The 2009 New Building Society second division limited overs cricket competition organised by the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) got off to an interesting start with Tain’s Parmeshwar Poonoo bowling his team to a 186-run victory over Silver Star.
Led by 52 from Imran Khan, Tain posted 228-8 against Silver Star in their rain-affected match which was reduced from 40 to 30 overs a side.
Subsequently, Tain’s opening bowler, medium pacer Poonoo took 5-15 from six overs to spearhead the routing of Silver Star for a mere 42 runs in their reply.
Miserly figures of 3-4 from two overs from off-spinner Rajendra Persaud, 3-18 from four overs from medium pacer Oudal Oudram and 2-2 from two overs from Navin Persaud ensured No 55 Mayflower bowled out No 58 Swing Star for a paltry 55 in 12 overs.
They then went on to record a10-wicket triumph in just 2.3 overs.
No. 47 village Pioneers, posted a challenging 258-9 in 35 overs against No 48 Challengers who responded strongly with 259-7 in 33 overs mainly because of the contributions of Wayne Garnett, 65 and Balram Persaud, 58.
After off-spinner Geeraish Deeges took 5-16 to help his team, Overwinning Bible Church bowl out Edinburgh for 144, his team-mate and opening batsman Mark Henry slammed 51 to steer the Overwinning Bible Church to a five-wicket win.
Also scoring half centuries were Khemraj Sumair and Rocky Bipat both of Canefield, Trevor Sinclair of Fyrish, Prabudyal Baldeo of Albion Front Shockers and Devon Harris of No 52.
Other bowlers with five-wicket hauls were Toolseram Moonessar of No 48 Challengers, Ravi Bridgelall of Flying Star, Wahab Edoo of West Canje, Aslam Ally of Seawell, Cheddi Bownauth of Yakusari Carib and former Guyana Under-15 spinner Suraj Paltoo.
