– Digicel contributes $100,000 to event
Digicel Guyana has added its touch to the one-day rodeo as preparations move apace for the event billed for tomorrow from 11:00am at Arima Park, West Coast Berbice, and organised by the Rodeo Committee of the Rising Sun Turf Club.
The company made a contribution of $100,000 yesterday to the orgainser of the event from the Rising Sun Turf Club at the company’s headquarters in Kingston. Inshanally Habibulla, speaking to Stabroek Sport, said he was grateful to the telecommunications company for their support.
Skills, thrills and spills are expected to take centre stage when the day’s activities get underway. Some 10 events are carded for the day’s competition and among the events are steer roping, bare back bronco, male and female barrel race, wild cow milking, calf roping, wild bull riding, saddle bronco and the popular Tug-o- War event.
On the other hand, a number of other novelty events will also be featured including a beer drinking competition.
Vaqueros (cowboys) are expected from all parts of Guyana. Some have already travelled from Lethem and the Rupununi Savannahs to West Coast Berbice to acclimatize themselves to the conditions on the coast. They are expected to match skills with competitors from Suriname, Venezuela and Brazil. The local contingent will be led by Fazal Habibulla and the West Coast posse.
According to the coordinator, massive renovation has been done to the facilities and fans will be in for a grand time as the event will feature the best vaqueros from this part of the continent on show. Over $1M will be up for grabs in the one-day event which has become an annual showpiece.
Banks DIH Limited and Rhythm Stars International will be on board to add some spice to the day’s activities.
