The body of a 58-year-old man was on Saturday evening discovered on the Good Hope Public Road and while the exact cause of death is not known, his relatives believe that he may have died from natural causes.
The body of Cecil Dookie, a father of one who last resided at his place of employment on the Good Hope Public Road, was discovered by a relative who was in the area shortly after 6 pm on Saturday night in front of the Industrial Engineering Limited firm.
When Stabroek News visited the man’s relatives at Vigilance on the East Coast of Demerara yesterday, his brothers were making preparations for his funeral. They said he was the eldest of 10 siblings, and the second to pass away. One of the man’s brothers told Stabroek News that Dookie was found lying face down on the northern carriageway of the public road.
He said his brother had a few bruises on his face along with a cut on his forehead when he was discovered and while they believe he succumbed to his alcoholic habits a post-mortem examination is expected to be performed today.
According to the man’s siblings, Dookie was a ‘heavy drinker’, noting that when the man’s body was discovered on Saturday evening, he had two bottles of ‘high wine’ in his bag and another small bottle of alcohol in his pocket. According to his brothers, Dookie did odd jobs in the Good Hope area to maintain himself, his last place of employment being a bodywork shop in the area where he resided temporarily. They said their brother once had a ‘healthy’ family life; he was once a taxi driver who worked tirelessly to maintain himself and his family. They said the man soon lost control of his drinking habit and according to his siblings, several years ago, Dookie moved out of the family home at Vigilance and his life continued downhill from there.
Cecil Dookie leaves to mourn his US-based wife and daughter along with 8 siblings. He is expected to be buried sometime this week.
