The occupants of a white Toyota car were yesterday morning attacked by several persons at the corner of Broad and Lombard streets, in full view of nearby residents and the travelling public who looked on helplessly.
While details of the incident are sketchy, according to an eyewitness who was in the vicinity at the time, the incident occurred shortly after 7:30 yesterday morning as he was passing in a minibus on his way to the city from the East Bank. While he could not recall exactly how many persons were in the car at the time, the eyewitness said that the occupants in the car, which was parked on Lombard Street at the time, were being physically assaulted by a group of men. He said persons in the vicinity were startled as the incident unfolded.
Stabroek News visited the area yesterday morning but persons in the area were reluctant to provide any information on the incident. However, a resident in the area told this newspaper yesterday afternoon that the incident may have stemmed from a misunderstanding between the occupants in the car and the men who carried out the attack. He could not say whether anyone sustained injuries following the incident.
It is unclear if the incident was reported to the police and checks with the Ruimveldt and Brickdam Police Stations yesterday were in vain.
