The second day of the Pegasus Open lawn tennis tournament which is being played at the hotel’s courts saw a number of exciting matches as well as a number of walkovers.
In the junior category there were wins for Nicola Ramdyhan, Kristie Lopes and Africa Gentle on the female side and Brandon Shaw, Brian Ramsudn and Khalif Gobin in the junior boys’ division.
Playing in the girls’ 12 years and under category, Ramdyhan defeated Aretta Grandison 9/1; Lopes won from D. Herbert 9/6 and Gentle was anything but gentle against A. Tulsi whom she thrashed 9/0.
In the boys’ 12 years and under category, Shaw whipped Mikhail Ameerally 9/0; Ramsudn dispatched Shaw 9/0; A. Mohamad defeated Mikhail Ameerally 9/4 and Kahlif Gobin defeated A. Mohamad 9/3.
In the girls’ 14 and under category, T. Platts gained a walkover from Sue-Ann Shaw, T. Naimatali defeated A . Grandison 6/1, 6/0; Gentle got a walkover from S. Timmers and Krystal Sukra thrashed Nadia Cox 6/0, 6/0.
In the boys’ 14 and under category, there were walkovers for I. Ameerally and Keith Wintz over N. Barry and
Benedict Sukra respectively while D. Fraser whipped Ramsudn 6/0, 6/0 and A. Peroune got the better of R. Singh 6/2, 1/6 (7-4).
In the boys’ 18 and under category, Javed Khan thrashed A. Brassington 6/0 6/0 and Ryan Vansluytman won from Seanden David-Longe after the latter was forced to retire injured with the score 6/1, 3/0.
In the ladies Open singles category, Shauna Gentle defeated Nadia Cox 6/1 , 6/0 and in the mixed doubles Open category, Phillip Squires and Aruna Ramrattan defeated T. Niamatali/M.Niamatali 6/1, 6/0.
In another mixed doubles encounter, K. Gobin/Nicola Ramdyhan defeated Carol Humphrey/Godfrey Lowden, 6/2, 6/1.
In the men’s Open doubles category, G. Barkoy/A. Ameerally defeated L. Chapman/R. Pittman 6/0, 6/2 and J.Miller/J. Antczac defeated R. Ramrattan/R. Vansluytman 6/2, 6/0.
In the Men’s 35 and over singles, Anthony Ameerally defeated Harry Panday 6/1, 7/5 while in a men’s 35 and over doubles encounter the pair of C. Alphonso/W. Alphonso defeated Lowden/M.Niamatali 6/2, 6/3.
The competition continues today
