The police have arrested a male relative of the 30-year-old Enmore woman who died at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) following a beating.
Police yesterday said they arrested the man around 10 pm on Sunday following a report of the woman’s death by a public-spirited citizen.
The lawmen said they received a report that the woman, Dionne Skeete, was severely beaten and kicked down the stairs of her Enmore, East Coast Demerara, home by the male relative.
Relatives of the woman yesterday remained tight-lipped and refused to divulge any information about the death of the mother of four.
However, Stabroek News understands that the woman has suffered years of physical abuse which resulted in her having such severe headaches, she was forced to see a specialist doctor recently. She was advised to travel to Trinidad for further treatment but because of financial constraints this was not done.
Reports are that the woman was at the Enmore Guinness Bar where she received some blows following which she left. Her brother later found her crying out for pain and she was taken to the hospital where she died.
When Stabroek News visited the home on Sunday relatives refused to comment and stated that any reports would be psychologically damaging to the woman’s children.
A post-mortem examination is expected to be performed on the woman’s body tomorrow.
