Riddim Squad and Santos Football Clubs who are firmly ahead in the points standing of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Western Union First Division Competition brushed aside Huston Stars and Uprising in the penultimate round on Sunday at the Camptown ground.
The undefeated tournament leader, Riddim Squad, with 30 points buried Huston Stars 7 – 0 in the curtain raiser of the double header which had Santos defeating Uprising 3 – 0.
Santos trails Riddim in second place with 27 points while the other two teams in the super four, Uprising and Huston Stars, are tied on 16 points but Uprising is ahead on superior goal difference.
This Sunday, Riddim Squad goes head to head with Santos at 1:30pm in the final round of the super four stage and Huston Stars will meet Uprising at 3:30pm in the other match of the double header to be played at the Camptown ground.
Riddim Squad took control of the encounter from the opening minutes and led 5 – 0 at the conclusion of the first half.
They were supported by a Gordon Grant hat-trick and a Sheldon Hope double, which contributed to the unassailable lead developed by the Riddim Squad team.
Grant scored in the 5th, 17th and 56th minutes and Hope was successful in the 12th and 30th minutes while Dellon John and Amos Ramsay delivered goals in the 35th and 50th minutes, respectively.
In the Santos/Uprising showdown, Santos led 1 – 0 going into the second half then they piled on two more goals to make it a comfortable win.
Trevor Lewis’ double in the 6th and 60th minutes and a 70th minute Michael Pedro goal accounted for the three bombs that sank Uprising.
