Beverage giants Ansa McAl and Cellular service providers Digicel have teamed up with Beepats to sponsor this year’s Scorpion’s All-Star Weekend, which will be held from November 7-8 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The three companies yesterday at a press conference expressed their pleasure at being part of the seventh hosting of the basketball showpiece event and also pledged their continued support to the Scorpions Basketball Club.
Representing Digicel was Sherwin Campbell who said that his company is proud to endorse yet another event that is designed to mould the talents and skills of basketball players in Guyana.
“This sponsorship follows closely on the heels of the national school basketball tournament during the summer and demonstrates our continual commitment to the development of sports in Guyana and across the Caribbean. We look forward to this year’s all-star weekend being bigger and better and commend the organisors for their dedication in driving this event successfully over the last seven years,” Campbell said.
Ansa McAl’s Ajita Hinds noted that they are looking to maintain a good relationship with the Scorpions Club in making sure the event is around for a long time.
This is the first time that both Ansa McAl and Digicel are soaking their feet in the All-star event since it was initially sponsored by Supligen.
Meanwhile, Beepats will be sponsoring the event under the Brunswick Sardine brand, and their representative Alicia Badu is confident that the event would be a success, adding that Beepats is confident that under a new brand, the All-Star will go to new heights.
Coach of the Beepat Scorpions Basketball Club Vejai Panday said that with new sponsors, a fresh air has now been breathed into the event.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Digicel, Beepats and Ansa McAl for coming onboard with our All-Star Weekend this year. I think that their sponsorship is very important because it will let the players know that other people are out there and willing because after Supligen said that they will not be onboard this year, everyone said that we will have problems or so to pull it off,” Panday said.
The magnitude of their sponsorship is “very appreciated and workable,” according to Worrell Williams, Vice-President of the Beepat Scorpions Basketball Club.
He noted that the All-Star event this year promises to be better than the past two years and he was also high in praise for the sponsors who could not have come at a better time.
On November 7th, spectators will see the country’s best shooters and dunkers go at it in the senior competition while the Linden juniors will be looking to defend their All-Star title against Georgetown.
The following night will be the junior three points and slam dunk title while the Linden senior players will be coming strong to defend their title which was won last year.
Several novelty events will be held with the spectators also getting a chance to cash in on big bucks and also special prizes from the sponsors.
