This is what a teenager told Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday when he appeared before her to answer the charge of unlawful wounding. He was later remanded to prison.
Jermin Simon, 19, of 226 Victoria Village, East Coast Demerara pleaded guilty with explanation to the charge which stated that on October 24 at Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Sounia Conyer.
When given a chance to respond, Simon told the court that he was under the influence of alcohol and as a result was not aware of his behaviour or even that he had injured someone. He maintained however that he firmly believes that he injured no one.
“Meh Worship, de alcohol in me head had me real bad and like I din know wah I de really doing, when people tell me that I juk dis woman, but I still telling yuh I know me en bore she even though I din really know wah I de doing at de said time,” he stressed.
The virtual complainant (VC) said however that she was at the Down Town Tavern at Longden and America streets where Simon was having a few drinks and behaving in an unruly manner when she told him about his behaviour and he subsequently stabbed her with an ice pick in the region of her left breast.
After the explanation, the acting chief magistrate entered a not guilty plea for Simon. He was later remanded to prison until November 9. His matter was transferred to Court Two.
