As police continue investigations into the murder of former Region Three Vice-Chairman, Ramenauth Bisram, a number of persons have been questioned and his daughter believes that the killer was someone who knew him.
Meantime, a post-mortem examination done yesterday confirmed that the man died as a result of multiple stab wounds. While the investigations are ongoing, a police source could not say yesterday whether enough information has been garnered to enable charges to be laid against anyone.
Bisram, a former vice-chairman of the Essequibo Islands/West Demerara region was on Monday found dead at his home, with several stab wounds about his body including to his abdomen and face. The discovery was made at around 4.30 pm that day by his brother-in-law, Walter. The body was naked and lying on the floor of his bedroom. It was surrounded by pools of blood. A blood-stained kitchen knife was found next to the body.
The two men, who made the discovery were invited to the police station and later held while two other residents of the village were taken into custody on Tuesday. Bisram’s daughter, Nalini Sing, who resides in the US and who arrived in the country on Tuesday, told this newspaper yesterday that two of the persons held are relatives. She said that at about 5:30 pm on Monday, she received a call and the person told her that her father was dead.
She said that an attaché case that her father would have in his possession was missing and while she said Bisram was not “insecure” about being there alone, he had had a problem with a resident in the area.
The resident, she stated, has not been seen since the discovery of the body.
In the attaché case, Sing said, was US$5000 that she had sent to her father so that he could purchase items for the house since she had planned on returning to Guyana for Christmas. Because it was close to the holidays, “he was holding on to it”, she stated.
The woman noted too that Bisram was a Justice of the Peace and the necessary documents and stamps would have been contained in the case.
Additionally, she said, his licensed firearm would have been stored there as well as his passport and bank books. Bisram’s birth certificate, the transport for the home as well as his will would have been in the case too, she added.
Sing expressed the belief that the murder was committed by someone who knew Bisram and expressed confidence that they would be brought to justice. “I have a lot of faith”, she said.
