Dear Editor,
The Guyana Police Force is responding to an article published in the Stabroek News of Thursday, October 29, 2009, under the caption `Fuel that coastguards had was illegal’.
The article which dealt with the incident at Parika on Sunday last during which three members of the army were arrested, stated that according to sources the boat the coastguards were in belongs to a police constable who has been attached to the Morawhanna Police Station for the past eight years.
The Force refutes this claim and wishes to clarify that during the investigations into this matter, a resident of East Coast of Demerara who operates a boat service from the Pomeroon River to the North West District confirmed that he was the owner of the vessel and stated that he had loaned it to the senior rank of the three coastguards involved.
Yours faithfully,
Ivelaw Whittaker
