(BBC) Fast bowler Brett Lee has become Australia’s latest injury casualty after he was ruled out of the remainder of the one-day series against India. The 33-year-old suffered an elbow strain during Australia’s four-run win in Vadodara on Sunday and missed the second match in Nagpur on Wednesday.
“A decision has been made to send him home to consult with an elbow specialist,” said physio Kevin Sims.
The selectors have yet to name a replacement for the New South Welshman. His absence means Australia, who won the Champions Trophy for the second time in a row in October, are without first-choice wicketkeeper Brad Haddin, batsman Michael Clarke and seamer Nathan Bracken. Tim Paine, who has been serving as Haddin’s replacement behind the stumps, will also miss the rest of the seven-match one-day series after breaking a finger in the 99-run defeat in Nagpur. The 24-year-old will be replaced by Graham Manou, who is expected to fly out in time for the third game in New Delhi today.
Australia’s chief selector Andrew Hilditch said: “Tim Paine has a fractured finger from the game and is unable to take any further part in the series. He will return to Australia as soon as his replacement arrives.”
India, who levelled the series 1-1 on Wednesday, have named an unchanged squad for the next two matches in the series.
