Summerbell takes aim at Caribbean title

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – David Summerbell leads a small two-man team for Jamaica to the final leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) series in Guyana next weekend.

As CMRC leader, Summerbell is well placed to land the drivers’ championship but his small team appears hard pressed to snatch team honours from handsome series leaders Barbados.

Chris Campbell joins Summerbell in the Jamaican contingent, which includes two bike riders — Stefan Chin and Halquin Rodney.

In a Mitsubishi Evolution, Summerbell landed all three championship events during the first leg in Jamaica in May and added another victory in Barbados when the second leg was staged in August.

Summerbell has 48 points  in the CMRC drivers’ championship standings to lead the Barbadian brothers Mark Maloney (39) and Stuart Maloney (22), with Guyana’s Andrew King lying fourth on 16 points.
Stuart Maloney, the reigning CMRC champion, will miss the meet after his Mitsubishi went up in flames in a preparation run for a local meet earlier this month.

Even without Stuart Maloney, Barbados are poised to capture team honours.
They have 82 points to lead the Jamaicans (64) and will be using a solid team to defend the 18-point lead.
The full Barbados team for the November 8 event will be Mark Maloney, Roger Mayers, Doug Maloney, Steve King, Kurt Thompson, Kenrick Husbands, Mark Thompson, and Kevin Griffith with bikers Arthur Cumberbatch and Brook Miller.
