The decomposing body found at Hauraruni along the Linden/Soesdyke Highway on Monday has been identified as that of 23-year-old taxi driver Gavin Washington.
Police in a press statement said that man’s body was identified by his aunt sometime yesterday. Washington, according to the release, was a resident of South Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death are ongoing. Police did not say whether marks of violence were discovered about the man’s body.
In an earlier release they reported that about 1 pm on Monday the man’s decomposed body was found among some bushes off the Linden/Soesdyke Highway at Hauraruni. The body was clad in a pair of blue jeans, multi-coloured belt and multi-coloured underpants. A pair of black leather shoes and a black tee shirt with the word ‘Holister’ written at the front and the number ‘65’ on the back were found some distance away from the body.
A .45 spent shell and a warhead were found near the body, police had said, but did not say whether the man appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound or was reported missing by relatives.
