Post office didn’t accept driver’s licence as form of ID

I purchased a book from Amazon.com and went to the Parcel Section of the Guyana Post Office to uplift the book but an officer there said that they do not accept the Guyana Driver’s Licence as a form of ID.

She said they only accept the National ID Card and Passport as identification documents.

A Driver’s Licence is the most widely used photo ID anywhere in the world. It seems that Guyana is the only country in the world that does not accept their own Driver’s Licence as a photo ID.

The Driver’s Licence is issued by a government entity, the Guyana Revenue Authority and it is not recognized by another government entity, the Guyana Post Office Corporation.

So we can assume that the Post Office Corporation does not have confidence in the integrity of the issuing of driver’s licences by a fellow government entity, the GRA.

Contradictions, conflicts of interest and confusion are the order of the day in a dying nation. Wondering why people want to migrate?
