-Titles too for Sukra and David -Longe
As expected longstanding doubles partners Dr. Steve Surujbally and Maxie Fox carted off the men’s 55-years and over doubles title as the Le Meriden Pegasus Hotel Open lawn tennis tournament continued at the hotel’s courts.
Surujbally and Fox made light work of B. Khan and R. Rampersaud winning 6-1, 7-5.
Two of the country’s rising stars Krystal Sukra and Seanden David-Longe also carted off titles.
Sukra was in a no-nonsense mood in the girls’ 14 years and under category whipping Tanya Niamatalli 6-0, 6-0 while David-Longe brushed aside Brian Ramsudh 6-2, 6-2 in the boys’ 14-years and under category.
In earlier results K. Lopes defeated D. Herbert 9/6 in the girls’ 12 years and under category; A. Dey defeated D. Herbert 6/4, 6/2 in a girls’ 14 years and under category match.
In the boys’ 14-years and under category, B. Sukra won by walkover from K.Wintz; B. Ramsudh defeated D. Frazer 6/0, 6/0 and R. Singh defeated A. Peroune 6/2, 1/6, 7/4
In the boys’ 18 years and under category, Javed Khan defeated A. Brassington 6/0, 6/0; David-Longe defeated R. Vansluytman 6/1, 3/0 (Retired) and in a men’s Open singles encounter Kijana Lewis defeated Javed Khan 6/0, 5/3 (retired).
In the mixed doubles Open category the pair of Carol Humphrey/Godfrey Lowden defeated Khalif Gobin/Nicola Ramdyhan 6/2, 6/1 while in a men’s 35-years and over singles encounter Harry Panday defeated Anthony Ameerally 6/1, 7/5. Among the players advancing to the next round are Clinton and Wayne Alphonso, Rudy Grant, Philip Squires, Ezra Sue-Ho, Aruna Ramrattan, Shauna Gentle, Carol Humphrey, G. Lowden and A. Lopes.
