Blackouts due to generation shortfalls, GPL says, will be minimal with the recent commissioning of three 6.9 megawatts Wartsila generators at its Kingston Power Plant.
GPL (Guyana Power and Light Company), in a press release, said the generators were commissioned on Wednesday and testing is continuing to ensure stable and continuous power to the national grid. The infrastructure for the transmission interconnecting system has been completed, they said, and within 48 hours the verification of tests should be completed.
This, according to GPL, will reduce blackouts. However, the company advised that consumers conserve energy especially during the upcoming Christmas season. Conservation, the press statement explained, will allow the system to sustain generation making way for the smooth transition to the 69kv transmission lines.
The company further expressed appreciation for the patience of consumers during the recent periods of blackouts and assured that they will continue to implement programmes to raise the level of service it provides to its customers.
