These special holiday rates are in addition to the US$25.00 economy box and the flat rate box which were introduced earlier this year to provide Caribbean Americans in the Diaspora affordable options to continue supporting their relatives back home despite the current economic recession, a news release from Laparkan said.
Laparkan’s Senior Vice President Shridat Naraine made this announcement on October 31 while addressing a customer appreciation reception at the Laparkan office and warehouse in West Palm Beach, Florida.
This initiative comes as several Caribbean governments including Antigua and Barbuda and St. Lucia have announced plans to offer relief to their citizens receiving barrels from relatives abroad for the holiday season through reduced custom duties, the release noted. Both these countries have introduced the “dollar barrel” programme under which one (US) dollar customs duty is charged for a barrel containing personal effects.
The Laparkan Group of Companies was established in 1983 and its corporate headquarters is located in Miami, Florida, USA.
In Guyana, Laparkan Holdings Limited comprises a diverse mix of companies offering travel services, the William Fogarty’s retail department store and supermarket, office services, financial services and a majority shareholding in the engineering firm, Guyana National Industrial Company.
