We are all horrified by the brutal torture of the teenage child now lying in a hospital bed, physically and emotionally scarred. He could be our son, grandson, brother, nephew.
The organisations named below ask you to join us and other Guyanese organisations and individuals to stand in silent solidarity with the boy and his family, today from 3.30 pm to 4.45 pm.
We propose to stand vigil on the Lamaha Street pavement opposite the Georgetown Public Hospital. We suggest that in keeping with the idea of a silent vigil there should be no individual picket signs, only 4 banners to be held at different points of the vigil saying “Solidarity against Torture”. (Alicea Foundation has generously agreed to provide the banners)
Let us show this boy directly – and other victims indirectly – that enough of us from across a spectrum of groups and sectors in Guyana are ready to be vigilant in protecting them.
Yours faithfully,
