A Form One student is nursing a stab wound in the Georgetown Public Hospital after accidentally “jamming” another student during a music “clash”.
Andrew Benn, 13, of 6 Friendship, East Bank Demerara, who is a student of the Diamond Secondary School, sustained the wound in the left side of his abdomen. He related that on Wednesday during the lunch break he and some other students were “clashing”. He said that some time during this he accidentally touched another student who said that he “chucked” him on purpose. “Me ain’t know if I touch this guy,” Benn said, explaining that a small crowd had gathered to watch students try to better each other in music. A fight broke out between the two boys.
Benn said that yesterday morning when he and the other student were sent home by the head teacher for the fight the day before, he was attacked outside the school’s compound. “He told me that the fight ain’t done yet and he pull a scissors out he bag and juk me,” Benn said. It was a small black-handled scissors, he said.
Vendors outside the school who witnessed the incident interceded and flagged down a passing pick-up which took the boy to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre. Benn was soon after transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The other lad was held, and according to Benn’s sister, is in police custody.
