A young woman was found hanging in the bathroom of her Eccles home yesterday, a day after an unsuccessful suicide attempt.
Poonan Davi Rampersaud, 20, of Ballfield Squatting Area was found hanging by a rope the family used to make clothes-lines. She recounted that she decided to visit her daughter around 10:30 am and when she pushed the door to the bathroom she saw the lifeless body hanging from the rope. A knife was nearby and the bottoms of her feet were touching the ground. No one else was at home at the time.
Stabroek News was told that although she had domestic problems, there was no indication that she wanted to end her life.
It was reported that the young woman had called a cousin earlier to relate a beating she had allegedly sustained at the hands of her partner, with whom he had been with for three years. The couple had been due to marry next month.
