The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) has launched its ‘Catch the Waive’ promotion aimed at giving customers who were disconnected prior to October 31 and those with illegal connections an easy way to put themselves in order.
In a press release issued yesterday, the company said its new promotion gives customers the chance to pay their outstanding dues by November 30, without being charged the reconnection fee.
“We have a large number of customers on our database who were disconnected and have not made any payments to regularize their water service,” the press release quoted GWI National Revenue Manager Earle Aaron as saying, “this limited time promotion offers these customers the chance to pay only for outstanding water charges; GWI will not charge any customer reconnection fees on or before November 30, 2009.”
Aaron further said GWI has decided to be lenient with customers in the light of the approaching holiday season.
However, he said if these customers fail to take advantage of the new promotion and pay their outstanding fees then GWI will check their connections. Customers found with illegal reconnections will face a fine of $6,000 for residential and $13,000 for commercial.
GWI will also be waiving tampering fees until this month end for those persons with illegal water connections.
These persons will only be subject to a $1,000 connection fee. At the end of this promotion those persons who still have illegal connections can face jail time or a fine of up to $25,000 for residents and businesses up to $50,000.\
“GWI is extending goodwill to all our customers,” Aaron said, “it is our hope that they will utilize these offers with the aim of improving our partnership.”
