According to a GGMC press release announcing the winners, four schools competed in the semi-finals – Mackenzie High against St Joseph’s High and Bishops’ High against St Stanislaus College.
And Mackenzie High and Bishops’ High proceeded to the finals on Friday with Bishops’ High emerging the winning school with eighteen points, and Mackenzie High in second place with four points. This was the pilot programme and the objectives were to encourage and engage students at the Fifth Form level pursuing studies in the science and technology fields to develop a more in-depth approach to research and studies in science, mathematics, mining, and the geosciences.
It was also intended to create a greater awareness and provide strategic information to students who are interested in pursuing careers in science, mathematics, mining and the geosciences, the release added. The schools which participated in the competition were Queen’s College, St Stanislaus College, Three Miles Secondary, Mackenzie High, New Amsterdam Multilateral, Bishops’ High, St Rose’s High and St Joseph’s High.
In the preliminaries New Amsterdam Multilateral competed against Mackenzie High; St Joseph’s High against Three Miles Secondary; St Rose’s against Bishops’ High and St Stanislaus against Queen’s College.
Meanwhile, all of the programmes, which include four preliminaries, two semi-finals and the finals were recorded for Television and Radio and will be aired this week, the release stated.
