Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC), Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) and the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) recorded easy wins yesterday in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) three-day, first-division competition.
Additionally, New Line Cavaliers (NLC) were poised to wrest an outright win from Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) who had taken first innings points.
At the end of the second day of their game NLC, set 226 for victory after DCC made 155 all out in their second innings, were 167-2 from 34 overs at the Queenstown ground.
Andrew Lyght Jr. had earlier smashed a swashbuckling 78 from 46 balls for NLC. He cleared the ropes eight times and reached the boundary thrice.
Gajanand Singh (9×4) is unbeaten on 61 and Andre Percival, with whom he shared a 67-run third wicket partnership, is undefeated on 20 (1×4, 1×6).
Earlier, Christopher Barnwell and Jamal Hinckson made 78 and 33 respectively for DCC who led on first innings by 71 runs.
Singh grabbed 4-12 from six overs bowling off-spin while Paul Wintz chipped in with 2-11 and leg-spinner Mahendra Nagamootoo 2-47.
The match concludes on Saturday.
Meanwhile, MSC only needed three runs to complete their victory over Police at the Thomas Lands ground on the last day. Police, who resumed on their overnight 121-4, were bowled out for 225 in their second innings after managing 154 in their first innings.
MSC scored 377-5 declared in their first innings.
Andre Stoll top scored with 34 for Police as Deon Ferrier (who made 104 not out in MSC’s first innings) Seon Daniels and Quason Nedd took two wickets apiece to set up the win. MSC took five balls to reach their target.
At the GCC ground, Bourda, despite an admirable 95 not out (6×4, 1×5) from wicketkeeper Joseph Perry and a fighting 84 from overnight batsman Troy Gonsalves, ECC still lost by four wickets to hosts GCC.
ECC, resuming on their overnight 163-4, were bowled out for 299 in 72.3 overs.
GCC’s Ricardo Jadunauth snared five wickets for 102 runs and Chivanand Shivram, who took four wickets in the first innings, got 2-59 from his 12 overs. GCC, who held a 163-run, first innings lead after making 344 and dismissing ECC for 181, were required to score 136 for victory and reached 139-6 from 30 overs.
Waslim Haslim stroked seven boundaries and two sixes in his innings of 62 and team mates Ravi Sarwan and Jadunauth made 29 and 22 respectively as GCC knocked off their target before 16:00 yesterday.
In GCC’s first innings Vishal Singh scored a comfortable 110 while Leon Johnson made a scratchy 53.
Transport Sports Club (TSC), set a mammoth and daunting 444 for victory folded for 191 from 60 overs after they resumed the last day on 42-2. Ranole Bourne (5-93) took his second five wicket haul of the match to end with figures of 10-124; off-spinner Collis Butts chipped in with 3-50 to end with match figures of 7-78.
Stephon Sampson (38), Carl Rambharose (37) and Azim Azeez (29) were the chief scores for TSC. Earlier GNIC made 247 and bowled out TSC for 98 and in the second innings GNIC declared at 295-5 with David Dick scoring an even 100, Krishna Arjune (87) and Rayon Griffith making an unbeaten 54.
The second round of the competition continues next weekend.
