A night shelter lodger who is accused of wounding another lodger was remanded to prison by Magistrate Priya Beharry yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Alston Bentick is accused of unlawfully wounding Victor Persaud at La Penitence Night Shelter on November 14.
Prosecutor Krishnadat Ramana said the defendant had approached Persaud and a heated argument ensued. Ramana said further that Bentick had slapped Persaud and left but returned with a bottle and struck Persaud on his head. The prosecutor objected to bail pointing out that both men were lodgers at the shelter.
Bentick is to return to court on January 13.
