A young man was yesterday remanded to prison after Magistrate Priya Beharry read a charge of robbery with aggravation to him at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, accusing him of robbing a passenger in a minibus of a $107,000 gold chain.
Anthony Frances pleaded not guilty to the charge.
It is alleged that on November 13 in Georgetown, Frances along with another robbed Pradeep Singh of one gold chain valued $107,000.
Prosecutor in the case, Stephen Telford, told the court that the virtual complaint (VC) was in a minibus in the vicinity of Muneshwer’s Store when the defendant entered the bus, robbed Singh of his chain with pendant and handed it through the window to another person. He then made good his escape but was later identified by the VC and arrested.
Telford objected to bail on the grounds that the defendant had a similar offence against him in court.
Frances denied that he had another court matter. However, bail was denied and he is to return to court on January 5.
