PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Vincentian Shandel Samuel and Guyanese Randolph Jerome scored for their respective clubs on Sunday, to help fire them to victories in the Trinidad & Tobago FA Trophy tournament.
Playing in the round-of-32 fixture at the Plymouth Recreation Ground, in Tobago, Samuel scored one of Ma Pau’s goal in a 7-1 hammering of Phoenix.
He was on target in the 30th minute with Mau Pau’s third goal, after Rennie Britto had opened the scoring in the third minute and Kevin Molino had added a second two minutes later.
Anthony Wolfe scored the first of his brace in the 45th minute to hand Mau Pau a 4-0 half-time lead and on resumption, he scored again in the 63rd before Britto (69th) and Trevin Ceasar (81st) completed the rout.
Jeremy Stewart netted a 66th minute consolation item for Phoenix.
At the Larry Gomes Stadium, Jerome fired in the second goal in the 28th minute from the penalty spot after Keon Daniel had opened the scoring in the tenth minute as Caledonia AIA of Morvant/Laventille began its defence of its title with a comfortable 6-0 bashing of Queen’s Park Super League outfit.
Akim Armstrong (36th) and Densill Theobold (38th) also found the target to inspire a 4-0 lead at the half while Ryan Stewart (85th) and another by Daniel in the 89th minute completed the drubbing and a miserable night for the Queen’s Park Cricket Club, whose Northern Football Association players were crushed 8-0 by two-time FA winner, San Juan Jabloteh in the first match at the same venue.
Pro League side Joe Public, winners in 2001, 2004 and 2007 and chasing a fourth title for the season, had the biggest win of the round, a 12-0 annihilation of Grand Lagoon United at the Marvin Lee Stadium.
