Guyanese authorities yesterday morning returned a deportee to the US on the same airline he arrived on Tuesday morning after no records could be found proving he had resided here.
Stabroek News was told that the man left on a Delta Airlines flight after spending the entire day in a holding facility at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri.
Sources had told Stabroek News that while the man’s parents are Guyanese he was actually born in Suriname. The man, who is said to be about 37, had lived in the US for the last 30 years and after being incarcerated for sometime was deported to Guyana.
Immigration sources told Stabroek News that a woman turned up at the airport on Tuesday and said she was a relative of the man, informing officials that the man’s mother was in the US. However, she provided no documentation proving the man was a Guyanese and was not allowed to see him.
Sources on Tuesday had questioned how the man got documentation to travel to the Guyana when there is no record of him ever entering the country.
