The Ministry of Education yesterday hosted an assessment and review exercise of its Education Strategic Plan (ESP) in order to ensure that its objectives are being achieved.
A one day retreat was held in Region Three yesterday, according to the Government Information Agency (GINA).
The ESP caters for the enhancement of the education sector. Ministry officials, at the first of the semi-annual meetings, were to have carried out a monitoring and evaluation system to indicate the progress since ESP was implemented. Over 60 technical officers and professional managers from the ministry’s central and regional departments were expected to critically review and assess its performance. This is to allow the ministry to make adjustments to its plans and propose strategies if the desired objectives are not being achieved.
Minister of Education Shaik Baksh and Minister within the Ministry of Education Dr Desrey Fox were both to be in attendance.
The new ESP is its major tool for achieving this vision which aims to address key areas including the delivery of quality education, achieving universal secondary education, teacher education, special needs education, and school health nutrition and HIV/AIDS.
Among its objectives are: building managerial capacity; access to quality and equitable education; technical and vocational education; and monitoring and evaluation framework.
