I have been parking in the National Park since 1995 and do three or more laps walking as exercise. I usually park on the eastern side of the park and then leave when I am finished. Why now are both gates closed to the entry of vehicles?
We now have to park on Thomas Road, which is not safe for our vehicles. I was told that there is accommodation for cars to park at the western end for a fee, but as I am a pensioner, I cannot afford to pay.
This park was given to all Guyanese for exercise/recreation by the last regime for the benefit of their health, and many are turned away by this selfish act of closing the gates and not allowing cars to park without paying a fee.
If there is a problem, then I suggest that motorcycles and cycles should not be allowed in after 3 pm as these are dangerous to the pedestrians, but not the cars. Where must the pensioners and the elderly go to do their exercise without having to think of their vehicles left unprotected on Thomas Road and elsewhere? There are two gates to prevent vehicles from traversing the track, and for now they are partially closed although no cars are allowed in. How nonsensical can this be – both outer gates and two inner ones closed as well?
I am asking the Minister responsible for the park or the administration to open the gates and have security monitor the parking of those who would like entry with their vehicles. Their early attention to this matter would be greatly appreciated.
