Benn pleaded not guilty to the charge of receiving stolen property which stated that on October 16 he received four car wheels valued $220,000 from Kifa Small, property of Sinclair Mohabir, knowing same to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.
Prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that on October 16, Mohabir was robbed of his motor car and since then three persons including Small had been charged for the offence.
He noted that Small had admitted to the robbery and had also told the police that he had given the wheels to Benn which were recovered and are currently lodged at the police station.
Mohabir, who was also present in court, told the magistrate that his car has not been recovered.
Meanwhile, Benn’s lawyer applied for reasonable bail for him on the grounds that he has no previous convictions.
The matter was transferred to Court Three for December 3.
Earlier this month, Mark Sawyers, 19, of Lot 1 Success, East Coast Demerara, Devon Forde, 23, of Lot 164 Duncan Street, Campbellville and Kifa Small, 19, of Campbellville Housing Scheme had pleaded not guilty before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson to joint charges of robbery with violence. Robertson granted the trio bail in the sum of $200,000 each and the matter had been transferred to Court Three for December 1.
It is alleged that on October 16, they used personal violence to rob Sinclair Mohabir of a NZE Toyota motorcar valued $3.2M, a quantity of tools valued $70,000 and $10,000 cash.
The men who were passengers in Mohabir’s car on the day of the incident allegedly beat and robbed Mohabir and then hijacked his car.
