His girlfriend was also charged with assaulting him when she appeared before Magistrate Beharry and was admitted to $10,000 bail.
The allegation is that on November 9 at Georgetown, Gosarran Sarran of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara unlawfully assaulted Balinda John. On the same day also Sarran is accused of threatening behaviour toward John.
The labourer pleaded not guilty to the charges of unlawful wounding and threatening behaviour when they were read to him.
Meanwhile, on November 9 at Georgetown, John who gave her profession to the court as a commercial sex worker, is alleged to have assaulted Sarran. The woman who hails from Berbice pleaded not guilty to the charge.
When given a chance to respond, the parties declined.
The prosecution told the court that on the day in question the two had an argument over sex which led to Sarran becoming annoyed with John. According to the prosecution, the male defendant dealt the woman two slaps and cuffed her after pursuing her with a knife.
The prosecution further stated that John in return threw a bucket of water on Sarran.
When asked her profession, John told the magistrate that she is a ‘hustler’. The magistrate then asked the woman to be more specific and she then told the court, “My worship I does pick fare.”
They were both ordered to return to court on November 30.
