According to the GDF spokesperson, Lt. Colonel Windee Algernon, there has been no new development but officers in the area are continuing the search.
“When there is any further change in what I sent out [in the press release] I would inform the media,” she told Stabroek News yesterday afternoon.
The GDF release issued on Friday night had stated that investigations revealed that during roll call on Tuesday last it was discovered that Marks and Private Clyde Bailey, both of the Jaguar Company 1 Infantry Battalion, were absent. A search was launched and Bailey was found at around 9 am on Wednesday about two miles from Eteringbang.
Army sources said that the soldier related that he and Marks had gone to a farm in the area. Stabroek News was told that on their way back to the location they got disoriented when they reached a fork in the trail. The two then went in different directions. Bailey told his superiors that it was the last time he saw Marks.
The GDF release on Friday night had informed that hours after Bailey was found a special team, comprising two officers and seven ranks from the First Infantry Battalion, and the Special Forces Squadron were flown into the area to investigate and complement the search effort. The police have also launched an investigation.
