The Regional Administration of Region Four has moved its administration office from Paradise to Triumph, East Coast Demerara, a press release from the Office of the Regional Democratic Council said.
The Office of the Regional Chairman, the Office of the Regional Vice- Chairman, the Office of the Regional Executive Officer and Deputy Regional Executive Officer are all in the new building.
It also houses the Sub Treasury, Regional Accounting Unit, State Audit, Personnel and Registry, Local Government Section, Engineer’s Department, and Information Section.
According to the release, the administration at its present location can now better serve the people of Region Four since it is centrally located.
Telephone lines are expected to be installed soon, the release said.
Region Four stretches from Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara, to Moblissa, Soesdyke-Linden Highway and also includes St Cuthbert’s Mission and several communities along the eastern bank of the Demerara River.
The regional administration’s office at Paradise was destroyed by fire of unknown origin on September 2, 2006. However the construction of the office at Paradise was one of controversy ever since Cabinet had taken a decision to build at the Triumph location.
In November 2006 there was a 16:12 vote by councillors for the administration building to be reconstructed at the same Paradise location.
Councillors from the PNCR had voiced their objections, contending that the building should remain at Paradise.
Despite the spat over the move to Triumph, 13 PNCR councillors, including the regional chairman, attended the last statutory meeting in the boardroom of the new office, the release added.
