Police release duo held for questioning after actor’s murder

And a senior police officer, when contacted yesterday, would only say that investigations are continuing.

The two women, this newspaper was told, are not suspects. They were held after one of them contradicted the story of a taxi driver. The driver told police that whenever he was transporting the women home, Fraser would usually hitch a ride to a Liliendaal address

Meanwhile, Florizel Fraser said yesterday that her family was preparing for her son’s funeral, which will be held next week. She said that a tribute will be held for him at the Theatre Guild tonight and a wake would continue as usual the following night at her Lot 27 Laing Avenue home.

Joel Fraser was found around 6 am at the Liliendaal seawall last Wednesday, just half a day before his latest production opened at the National Cultural Centre.

His throat was slashed so badly his windpipe was protruding while his face had wounds consistent with blunt trauma. The perpetrator(s) apparently used a knife to inflict other injuries as well. Fraser’s valuables, including a laptop computer and production material for the premiere of Mori J’von Comedy Jam, were missing.

The man was last seen around 11:30pm last Tuesday when he was dropped off at Orange Walk Bourda, after completing the final rehearsal for the comedy jam. The man’s girlfriend was detained for questioning shortly after the discovery but was released after giving a statement to police.
