Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) spinner Toataram Bishun took 14 wickets while Kevin George scored a century against Lusignan Cricket Club (LCC) in the Guyana Cricket Board three-day first division countrywide tournament at the Queenstown facility yesterday.
In LCC’s first innings of 234 all-out Bishun spun webs around the batsmen as he finished with impressive figures of 9-69 from 20 overs.
He returned in the second innings to grab 5-30 to have DCC comfortably placed going into today’s final day.
DCC, who started their reply last weekend, made 355 all-out in their first innings with George stroking 109 and Omesh Danram making a patient 55.
Christopher Barnwell chipped in with 38. That score ensured first innings points for DCC and a lead of 121.
LCC in their second innings, found themselves on 153-7, a lead of only 32 with three wickets remaining.
Harrinarine Hera (60) and Krishna Deosarran (51) made half centuries while Rajendra Naikbarran contributed 31. Deosarran was dismissed three runs short of another half century in the second innings while Omesh Dhanram accounted for the other two LCC batsmen.
Over at West Demerara, Malteenoes Sports Club took first innings honours after they were bowled out for 204 chasing New Line Cavalier’s (NLC) score of 186. Danny Narayan made the difference with a fighting 83 after overnight batsman Steven Jacobs only added two runs for his overnight score of 44.
Narayan’s knock lasted 93 balls which saw nine of them going to the boundary and one clearing the ropes. Leg spinner Mahendra Nagamootoo, who top scored in NLC’s first innings with 32, was the pick of the bowlers with 5-81 while Paul Wintz bagged 3-29. In NLC’s second innings they cleared their arrears of 18 runs to reach 121-5 at stumps on day two. Gajanand Singh made 43 and Andrew Lyght Jr. 24. Steven Jacobs added two wickets for 19 runs to his first innings figures of 2-35.
Left arm spinner Damian Vantull (3-60) and Seon Daniels (2-42) were the other chief wicket takers for MSC in the first innings.
Busta Twenty/20 Second Division tournament
MSC comfortably closed out Transport Sports Club (TSC) in 15 overs as they chased114 for victory over at the MSC ground. TSC, who were bowled out for 113 in 19.4 overs with Rawle Enmore making 40. Extras contributed 24 runs to the total while Shawn Massiah scored 13.
Edwin Burnett grabbed a hat-trick for MSC. He dismissed S. Ishmael (11), C. Hoyte (7) and S. Pooran (0) to wrap up the TSC innings. When MSC batted Troy Lewis made 46 and his opening partner Abiosa Barker 27 while Shaqueel Williams was left unbeaten on 17.
Ismael and Pooran were the wicket takers with figures of2-7 (2) and 2-9 (3) respectively.
