A 36-year-old labourer was remanded to prison yesterday by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court after he pleaded not guilty to inflicting bodily harm on another man.
It is alleged that on November 27 at Sand Pit area, Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, Leroy Evans with the intent to maim and disfigure caused bodily harm to the Virtual Complainant (VC) Neil Jupiter when he bit him.
Evans’ address was given as Squatting Area, Kuru Kuru, Linden.
According to prosecutor Inspector Stephen Telford, the VC was riding his bicycle on his way home and was followed by the accused. The accused, Telford said, followed the VC into his yard and was then asked to leave by the VC.
A heated argument ensued which led to a fight and the accused then bit the VC on his lower lip.
Meanwhile attorney-at-law Paul Fung-A-Fat requested reasonable bail for his client. He said that his client bit the VC in self-defence after he was hit over the head with a bottle. He further contended that the men were “drinking the devil’s brew” when the fight broke out.
Evans’ case was transferred to the Providence Magistrate’s Court for today.
