The vegetable vendor pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny which stated that on November 6, he stole $285,000 in cash, a touch screen cell phone valued $60,000 and a ‘Konka’ cell phone valued $3,000, all being the property of Quincy Marcus.
Cozier is scheduled to make another court appearance on January 5 next year.
He told the court that he did not know about the money or the touch screen cell phone but only the ‘Konka’ cell phone since he had purchased it from a “junkie” in Stabroek Market.
His lawyer Adrian Thompson applied for reasonable bail on his behalf, stating that shortly after his client was arrested in relation to this incident he was granted $5,000 station bail.
Prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that on the day in question Marcus and several other men were at his stall in Stabroek Market watching a television show.
He said that Marcus soon fell asleep leaving the money and his two cell phones in a box nearby.
When Marcus awoke he checked the box and discovered the money and the phones missing.
He immediately made a report to the police station.
The prosecutor went on to say that the police launched an investigation into the incident and Cozier was subsequently found with the missing ‘Konka’ cell phone.
He was then arrested and later charged.
