Gavin Holder of Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara, was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge of indecent assault.
It is alleged that between October 17 and 23, at the Springlands Police Station, Corentyne, he indecently assaulted the teenage girl.
Prosecutor Stephen Telford objected to Holder’s bail application when he suggested it and asked that the matter be transferred to the Springlands Magistrate’s Court.
The court was told that Holder is a police constable attached to the Traffic Depart-ment at the Springlands Police Station.
Telford stated that the teenage girl was arrested since she was found wandering and was placed at the Springlands Police Station where Holder allegedly indecently assaulted her.
“We cannot allow a person who has sworn to serve and protect the people to commit such an act and go unpunished,” stated Telford.
He said further that an arrest warrant had to be issued for Holder since he tried to escape after he was told of the allegation and was instructed to attend court.
The matter was transferred to the Springlands Magis-trate’s Court for December 21.
A police statement yesterday said that another police constable, Gary Verwayne was also charged yesterday in the matter.
A 16-year-old boy was placed on $150,000 bail on Monday when he appeared at the Whim Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Omeyana Hamilton accused of carnally knowing the said 15-year-old girl while she was at the Springlands Police Station.
According to reports, the teen was not a member of the Community Policing Group but was just a frequent visitor at the Springlands Police Station who had become quite familiar with the ranks there.
