The booklet, compiled by Gem Madhoo–Nascimento, is being described as the perfect tool for a tourist visiting Guyana for the first time and spotlights eco-tourism and entertainment as well as the Ministry of Tourism’s calendar of activities.
The new guide is larger than its predecessors and has improved with brightly-coloured pages. Still, Madhoo-Nascimento is working to making the booklet bigger and better and in this regard she called for support from the business community. She pointed out that for the new edition, some new advertisers came on board but she encouraged more to play a part in further development of the booklet. She said that she had taken the last edition to trade shows overseas and many persons are interested, immediately forcing it to go fast from the shelves. In another two weeks she expects a shipment of 20,000 copies, which she said is hardly enough. More advertising, she stated, would see a larger print run.
Tourism Minister Manniram Prashad, who officially launched the guide, noted that it has been helpful to him and augers well for tourism in Guyana. He expressed the hope that more advertisers would come on board, insisting that tourism is everybody’s business and everybody has a part to play. He said too that the booklet has helped the ministry to carry out its mandate and he lauded the effort. Prashad promised to encourage his colleague ministers to take the booklet wherever they go to distribute so that persons can see all that Guyana has to offer.
The guide is free of cost and will be available at hotels, the airport and at the different resorts.
