After a short break following the staging of the annual national championships the country’s top golfers will be back in action today when the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company sponsors the three-ball Scramble tournament at the Lusignan Golf Course on the East Coast of Demerara.
Coordinator of the tournament Dr. Ram Singh, vice captain of the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) told Stabroek sport that the players will compete in groups of three in what is expected to be a fun competition. As usual, the tournament is expected to attract a large field as the local golf season draws to a close.
According to Dr. Singh, there will be medal play type scoring with the player with the best gross being declared the winner. This is the first major tournament since the Guyana Open and among the players that are listed to take part are Colin Ming, Patrick Prashad, Mike Guyadin, Alfred Mentore, Boloram Deo, Ronald Bulkan, Mel Sankies, Majurice Solomon, William Walker, Lester Alvis, Ian Gouveia, Christine Sukhram, Gavin Todd, Joaan Deo, Clifford Reis, Mark Lashley, Imran Khan, Mike Mangal, Chatterpaul Deo, Mohanlall Dinanauth, Melissa Humphrey, Carlos Adams, Andre Cummings, Kasim Khan, Roy Cummings, Munaff Arjune, Brian Hackett and Francois Montour.
Tee off is at 12:15 hours.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers as well as Nearest to the Pin Representatives of GT&T have been invited to assist in the presentation of prizes.
GT&T is a regular sponsor of golf locally. Last year the telecommunication giants sponsored a Father’s Day tournament.
