Two Albouystown neighbours yesterday were placed on $40,000 bail over charges of unlawful wounding when they appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that on November 29 at Albouystown, Philbert Singh, also known as Wazim, 29, of 288 Independence Boulevard, Albouystown unlawfully and maliciously wounded Indira Subryan, also known as Pauline. He pleaded not guilty.
Meanwhile, Subryan is alleged to have unlawfully and maliciously wounded Singh at Albouystown on the same day. She pleaded not guilty.
It is also alleged that on November 28 at Albouystown, Subryan used abusive language towards Singh causing a breach of the peace. She pleaded not guilty to this charge as well.
Representing Singh, Attorney-at-law Zafar Mohammed in his bail application told the court that his client was married with two children and is a mobile pastry vendor with no antecedents. He asked for reasonable bail. His client, he said, sustained injuries to the back of his head, requiring four stitches. He also sustained injuries to the right side of his temple. Meanwhile, Subryan said Singh and her brother were fighting when he lashed and chopped her. “I never do nothing,” she told the magistrate while getting teary-eyed. She said that they were neighbours and Singh worked for her brother.
Subryan is 33 years old and resides at 290 Independence Boulevard, Albouystown. She is also a pastry vendor.
Prosecutor in the case, Inspector Stephen Telford told the court that a heated argument between the Subryan’s brother and Singh had erupted into a scuffle.
Singh, Telford said, hit Subryan’s brother and she in turn hit Singh. Telford said that Subryan’s brother was being sought so that charges could be brought against him as well. Both were involved in a fight and as a result both received injuries, Telford told the court.
Magistrate Robertson subsequently placed both parties on bail on the unlawful wounding charges and Subryan was placed on self-bail on the indecent language charge. They are to return to Court Two on December 18.
