Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday ordered that a 60-year-old man be remanded to prison when he appeared before her at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court for allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old schoolboy.
James Spooner of Lot 71 Louisa Row and Bent Street was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge of buggery.
It is alleged that on December 4, he buggered the teenage boy.
The case was called up to the magistrate’s bench where Spooner, who was laughing throughout the court proceedings, stated, “Look ya worship I is a big man and is wrong charge they gimme…I ain’t do dah.”
He stated that the teen had used a bicycle belonging to him without his permission and when the teen brought it back to his home, “I geh blackout and when I wake up I see a whole set ah policemen around me.”
The teen’s mother in tears related to the magistrate that on the night of the incident she was awakened by a strange sound. She said that she called out for her son and when he came to her “he deh smelling funny so I ask he weh he went and he tell me that he went riding.”
She said that she did not believe him and decided to strip him. The woman, who appeared distressed, said that “When ah strip he, de condom fall out he buttock…ah went mad after dah.”
Meanwhile, the police told the court that Spooner had borrowed $200 from the teen a while ago and on the day in question Spooner told the teen to come to his home to collect the money but instead had sex with him.
At this point Spooner burst out in a fit of laughter and said “Oh geez….I gon do dah…not me.”
The magistrate had to continuously order Spooner to conduct himself properly in the court and informed him that the case is of a serious nature. Spooner was later escorted out of the court by a policeman.
