International reggae sensation Taurus Riley, Duane Stephenson and a Brazilian band which is yet to be named are set to take Linden by storm come 1st January 2010 for a ‘stress relief fest’. This was announced at a recent launching of the event by several local promoters at the Barrow’s Restaurant and lounge at Linden.
Speaking at the launching, Director of the Fast Forward promotion Winston Caesar said that the group came together to stage the promotion realizing the void that was created after the exodus of the Kashif and Shanghai (K&S) football final which provided a social spectacle for residents and economic gains for the business sector.
According to Caesar the group has sealed the deal and signed contracts with the entertainers and Lindeners can look forward for a good show on New Year’s night. The promoters are however appealing to the business community to come on board as sponsors since the total cost of offsetting the many expenses is $9m.
Already a number of sponsors have pledged assistance including Carib, Demtoco, Sterling Products and the Linmine Secretariat among others.
Assistance is also being sought from President Bharrat Jagdeo and BOSAI.
Asked about the title for the event “Stress Relief Fest,” Chairman of Fast Forward Derick Wilson explained saying, “Linden is considered as a depressed community with almost no major economic activity happening and our community had gotten accustomed to having the football tournament but for economic reasons the event has moved to the national/ international level (and) understandably so. Given that that event also created a major economic boost for residents we are having this show to ensure that Linden has some economic activity during the festive season while providing international entertainment at the next level.”
He added that patrons to the event would not be disappointed. Coordinator Kevin Barron said that they are leaving no stone unturned as it relates to coordination, security and time management.
The artistes are scheduled to arrive in Guyana on December 31 and a motorcade would be organized to welcome them into the town of Linden.
