KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Discarded Test opener Brenton Parchment compensated for his first innings failure and Danza Hyatt sustained his impressive form, as they both hammered unbeaten half-centuries in the Jamaica Cricket Association’s third and final four-day trial match which ended in a draw Monday.
Parchment, who played two Tests and seven One-Day Internationals between 2007 and 2008, stroked 55 to salvage something from the match after he failed to score in the first innings.
The 27-year-old, right-hander shared an unbroken opening stand of 149 with Hyatt whose stroke-filled 76 was his second half-century of the match, as David Bernard’s XI made a strong reply in their second innings on the final day.
While Parchment reeled off nine fours and two sixes in his knock, Hyatt cracked eight fours and five sixes, in the entertaining first wicket partnership at Melbourne.
Earlier, out-of-favour West Indies opener Xavier Marshall carried on to reach 137 after continuing from his overnight 110.
The right-hander, who has not played for West Indies since the World Twenty20 Championship in England in June, finished with 18 fours and 11 sixes to pilot Tamar Lambert’s XI to 304 all out.
Marshall’s knock was his second century of the match following his first innings 125. Resuming at their overnight 201 for six, Lambert’s XI lost Krishmar Santokie without scoring with no addition to the score but leg-spinner Odean Brown stroked 39 in a stand of 67 for the eighth wicket with Marshall, to ensure the tail wagged.
When Brown became off-spinner Bevon Brown’s third wicket of the innings, Andrew Richardson stroked an unbeaten 28 to steer Lambert’s XI past the 300-mark.
Left-arm spinner Andre Dwyer finished with four for 120 to claim seven wickets in the match.
An 18-man squad is expected to be selected shortly to prepare for their defence of the WICB Regional Four-Day Championship which bowls off next month.
