Magistrate Nigel Hawke remanded a 60-year-old man to prison when he appeared before him at the Weldaad Court yesterday charged with carnal knowledge. It is alleged that Ayube Mohamed of Shieldstown, West Bank Berbice had carnal knowledge of a 14-year-old female on December 5, 2009. He was not required to plead.
Mohamed was denied his pre-trial freedom and was ordered to return to Court on December 5 at Blairmont.
Meanwhile, a 78-year-old man of Woodley Park, West Berbcie was reportedly taken into custody after he attempted to lure a 14-year-old girl with money.
Reports are that the man had impregnated the girl who was 13-years-old at the time. He had moved out of the area with the girl after learning that the police was looking for him.
Stabroek News learnt that he subsequently returned home and his children turned him in to the police who have sent the file to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice on how to proceed with charges.
