Two drivers have had their licences suspended after being charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
Jishnu Misir of Lot 858 West Irving, Bel Air Park, Georgetown and Neil Rudder of Lot 462 Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice have both been charged following investigations into deaths caused by dangerous driving.
It is alleged that on December 9 last year at Vreed-en-Hoop Misir caused the death of Dupan Persaud of New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop. Rudder allegedly caused the death of pedal cyclist Damely Braithwaite on October 1, 2007 at Mon Repos Public Road, East Coast Demerara.
Police in a press statement last evening said that as a consequence of being charged, the driver’s licence of both men has been suspended pending the outcome of their matters.
Meanwhile, police also said that two motorists were fined $7,500 by Magistrate Haymant Ramdhanie after they were charged with drinking and driving.
At about 7 pm on Wednesday Zaman Baksh of Supply, Mahaica, and Orlando Sattaur of Good Hope, Mahaica, were involved in an accident at Good Hope.
During investigations police discovered both men had consumed alcohol above the legal limit.
They were charged and appeared at the Mahaica Magistrate’s Court yesterday where they pleaded guilty and were fined.
