Former national opener Krishna Arjune made a sparkling 182 for Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) and Georgetown Cricket Club’s opener Wasim Haslim smashed a brilliant 112 on the second day of the third round of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) three-day first division tournament.
On a second day badly affected by rain, Ajune resumed the day on his overnight score of 144 against Everest Cricket Club (ECC) before GNIC declared at 355-7, after closing day one on247-3. His overnight partner David Dick, who needed four runs to complete his half century last Sunday, fell for 55 after featuring in a solid partnership.
At stumps on day two Everest were 68-2 after the match started 13:00 hours.
GCC versus TSC
Opener Haslim and Vishal Singh, currently encamped in the national 21-man squad, shared in a 175-run second-wicket partnership, after GCC lost its first wicket at 10, to propel the home team past Transport Sports Club’s first innings score of 168.
GCC has a lead of 44 runs.
Haslim’s century included 13 boundaries and three sixes while the unbeaten Singh’s 76 includes eight boundaries. Discarded West Indian batsman Leon Johnson is undefeated on 15 as GCC finished the day on 212-2.
TSC, after resuming on 79-4 from 32, were quickly bundled out for 168 from 53 overs. Devon Nandanand was the only surviving batsman with 38 after Kevin Alphonso (28), Chandra Persaud (27) and Simeon Sam (24) all got starts but failed to go on to make big scores.
Gavin Singh from his six overs took 3-7 while Chidinand Shivram returned figures of 3-47 from 11 overs and Raj Nananwas once again among the wickets with 2-37 from his 12 overs
DCC versus MSC
Over at the Malteenoes Sports Club (114-4) the home team was in hot pursuit of their visiting counterparts DCC first innings score of 280. Orin Forde, who had earlier taken 2-7, made 55 while Danny Narayan, who needs two more runs for his half century, is unbeaten after stroking four boundaries; Kellon Carmichael is yet to come off the mark.
DCC’s Christopher Barnwell captured two wickets. When DCC batted wicketkeeper/batsman Derwin Christian, who was riding high with a swashbuckling unbeaten 44 on the first day, was cut down after reaching his half century for 55. Barnwell had earlier made 41 and Jamal Hinckson chipped in with 40 down the order yesterday.
National under-19 pacer Seon Daniels had the best bowling figures with 4-43 from 12 overs while left-arm spinner Damian Vantull (3-58) and Forde (2-7) provided the requisite support.
No play was possible on the East Coast of Demerara between Police and Lusignan at the Lusignan Community Centre Ground. Police however ended their first day on 233-7 with Raul Brown making 75 and Shameer Fazal stroking 71. Trevor Benn (25) and Pernel London (23) are the not out batsmen.
All matches end today.
Lifetime Realty under-15
DCC steamrolled Ghandi Youth Organisation (GYO) for a paltry 71 in 18.5 overs over at the GYO ground in the Lifetime Realty Georgetown League under-15 50-over tournament. After the match was reduced to 39 overs GYO, who won the toss, sent DCC to bat who made 216 all out from 39 overs. Nicholas Bollers top scored with 45 and was supported by Andrew Gibson and Dexter George who made 38 and 29 respectively.
Jetendra Persaud (4-21) and Anil Komal (2-40) were the main wicket takers. In GYO’s turn at the crease Pervendra Persaud managed 21 for the losers.
Daniel Manohar and Michael Shalim spearheaded the DCC bowling attack with 3-11 (4) and 2-9 (2).
